That was brutal… He’s just about done, I just need to plug in all of his endomorphs. Karnagie’s model will actually be my Feline/tiger template that will used for all characters who have that kind of facial structure… so it is a significant accomplishment to me at least. I just wish it didn’t take me 3+ freaking days to do… the model isn’t even that complex. I did cheat a little bit and modified Lucius’s fur patches to build up Karnagie’s alpha hair. At least I can say Delura’s production for EP 005 should be downhill from this point onward… especially when I get into animation which is what I feel I’m best at.

Also, very deep thanks to Raymation3d for giving me pointers on approaches to modeling a character… he actually sent me 2 hours + of him doing some modeling in Lightwave (with commentary) just so that I could see how he works and it WILL change the way that I model from here on out. In my normal modeling workflow, I utilize what is called “box modeling”, where you take a primitive shape (most often a cube) and shape it into the object that you want… the disadvantage of this technique is that it can often result in substandard poly flow and a model that is harder to deform (because more polygons are needed to shape the object). Raymation3d introduced to me to what I think is called “edge modeling”… this method is where you take individual points and extrude out geometry 1-4 polygons at a time. It does take a little longer to master and to perform, but the result is a model that is easier to deform (better poly flow) and very efficient geometry placement… it also seems like a vastly superior method when you have a front/side profile and want to recreate it in 3d. I feel very privileged to have been taught this, because I’ve found that the further into 3d animation/art that I go, the harder it seems to be to find free learning materials and it results in a lot of inefficient learning and frustration through trial and error. I’m not against buying tutorials… I just know I will probably never be able to afford it.

EDIT: I think his chin area needs some tweaking…
